Egton station

Despite the name, this is the station for Egton Bridge, with the Postgate Inn on the doorstep and the stepping stones five minutes away.

Egton station serves Egton Bridge, the village in the valley bottom; Egton itself is a mile uphill. The Postgate Inn stands next to the platform, and it is a short, level stroll along the road to the stepping stones, St Hedda's Church and the Horseshoe Hotel.

From the platform

  • Walk west along the river through Arncliffe Wood to Beggar's Bridge and Glaisdale station, about two and a half miles.
  • Walk east along the river and lane to Grosmont for the steam railway, about two miles.
  • Climb the steep lane to Egton village and the Wheatsheaf.
