Sleights station

Sleights station is beside the Esk at the foot of the village, just below the A169 road bridge of 1937 (the old level crossing here was washed away in the floods of 1930). The main village, with its shops and pubs, climbs the hill to the south along Coach Road; the Salmon Leap is by the station and the Plough Inn is up in the village.

From the platform

  • Riverside and field paths lead east to Ruswarp, about two miles, for the boats and the Bridge Inn.
  • Lanes climb south to the hamlet of Littlebeck and on to Falling Foss, about three miles.
  • The Esk Valley Walk passes through on its way from Grosmont to Whitby.

A waterfall dropping some 30 feet into a wooded gorge, with a tea garden in a woodsman's cottage beside it and a hermit's cave nearby.
