Castleton Moor station sits in the valley bottom below Castleton, with the Eskdale Inn beside it and the village shops, tea rooms and pubs a ten-minute climb up the hill. It is the starting point for the 37-mile Esk Valley Walk and the best-served village at the top of the dale.

From the platform

  • Climb to the village for supplies, then take the Esk Valley Walk loop through Westerdale and back to Danby.
  • Field paths lead east along the river to Danby, about two miles, for a short there-and-back by train.
  • The road south from the village climbs over Castleton Rigg to Ralph Cross.
