Commondale is the first station in the Esk Valley after the line climbs over the moor from Kildale. It is a single platform beside the village, with the Cleveland Inn a few minutes' walk away and open moorland tracks climbing north and south. Trains stop on request: tell the conductor when you board, and give a clear signal to the driver from the platform when you want to be picked up.
From the platform
Walk east on tracks over Commondale Moor to Castleton Moor station, about three miles, and ride back one stop.
The Esk Valley Walk passes close by on its loop round the head of the valley.
