Visit the Esk Valley is an independent community guide to the valley of the River Esk in North Yorkshire, from its source on the high moors above Westerdale to the harbour at Whitby.

The Esk is the only river in Yorkshire that flows into the North Sea directly from the moors, and its valley is one of the most beautiful and least crowded parts of the North York Moors National Park. Our aim is simple: to help more people discover it, and to encourage them to come by train, walk between the villages, and spend their money in the shops, pubs and tea rooms that keep the dale alive.

Who we are

The site is run by volunteers who live in and love the valley. It is not affiliated with the national park authority, Northern or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, though we point you to them wherever they are the best source.

We do our best to keep information up to date, but opening times, prices, train times and event dates change. Please check with the venue or organiser before making a special journey, and let us know if you spot a mistake.
