Grosmont station

The busiest station in the valley, where Northern trains meet the steam and diesel services of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Grosmont is the junction of the Esk Valley line and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and on a summer day it hums with steam, whistles and visitors. Northern trains use the platform beside the level crossing; the heritage railway's platforms, tea room, shop and toilets are across the crossing. Walk through the original 1836 tunnel to the engine sheds.

Northern tickets are not valid on NYMR trains; buy a separate ticket for the steam railway.

From the platform

  • The Rail Trail to Goathland via Beck Hole, returning by steam train.
  • West along the river and lanes to Egton Bridge, about two miles, and back one stop by train.
  • The village has the Station Tavern, a cafĂ©, a gallery and the Grosmont Co-op.
