Falling Foss and Midge Hall

Falling Foss is a 30-foot (9-metre) waterfall on Little Beck, a tributary of the Esk, hidden in the woods of Sneaton Forest a few miles south of Whitby. Beside it stands Midge Hall, a 19th-century gamekeeper's cottage that is now a tea garden, open through the warmer months, with tables among the trees beside the water.

From the car park it is an easy ten-minute walk down through the trees. Longer walks follow Little Beck upstream to May Beck, or downstream past The Hermitage, a shelter carved from a single boulder in 1790, to the hamlet of Littlebeck.

The path can be muddy and the falls are best after rain.
