Grosmont Co-operative Society was founded in 1867 by the ironstone miners and railway workers of the village, and it still trades from the same premises on Front Street, making it one of the oldest independent co-operatives in Britain.
It is a proper village shop, with groceries, local produce, newspapers, maps and gifts, and it is the place to pick up picnic supplies before the Rail Trail.
