Mallyan Spout

The national park's best-known waterfall, a 70-foot curtain of water in a wooded gorge below Goathland.

Mallyan Spout drops about 70 feet (21 metres) down a mossy cliff into West Beck, in a steep wooded ravine on the edge of Goathland. It is at its most impressive after rain, when the water spreads into a wide white veil.

The path down from the village beside the Mallyan Spout Hotel is steep, and the final approach along the beck involves scrambling over slippery rocks; good footwear is essential and it is not suitable for pushchairs. Allow about 20 minutes each way.

From the falls, the beckside path continues downstream to the hamlet of Beck Hole, making a fine circular walk back to Goathland.
