Goathland: Heartbeat and Harry Potter locations

For eighteen years Goathland was Aidensfield, the 1960s village of the television series Heartbeat, and the locations are still easy to spot. The Goathland Hotel became the Aidensfield Arms, the village stores was the shop, the garage by the green was Scripps Funeral Services and Garage, and the church of St Mary appeared in countless scenes. The village shops sell Heartbeat memorabilia and the greens are still grazed by the wandering sheep that stole so many scenes.

At the bottom of the hill, Goathland station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway served as Hogsmeade in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001), where Hagrid met the first-years off the Hogwarts Express. It looks exactly as it did on screen.

The village is a couple of miles south of the Esk in a side valley; reach it by NYMR steam train from Grosmont or by the Coastliner bus.
