Thomason Foss

A pretty waterfall in a wooded gorge a few minutes' walk from the Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole.

Thomason Foss is Beck Hole's own waterfall, where Eller Beck drops over a rock ledge into a deep pool in a mossy ravine. It is smaller than Mallyan Spout but easier to reach: from the green at Beck Hole, follow the path upstream beside the beck for about ten minutes, passing under the railway bridge of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

The pool below the fall is a local swimming spot in summer, though the water is cold and the rocks are slippery. It combines well with the Rail Trail or the walk to Mallyan Spout.
