Lealholm village green and stepping stones

Lealholm's green runs down to the Esk beside the old stone bridge, and on a warm day it is the valley's favourite picnic spot. A line of stepping stones crosses the river just upstream of the bridge, the water is shallow and clear over a gravel bed, and there is room for a game of cricket on the grass.

The Board Inn is on the green, the tea rooms and village shop are a minute away, and the station is a short walk uphill. It is an easy place to fill an afternoon between trains, or to break the Esk Valley Walk between Danby and Glaisdale.

The river rises fast after rain; if the stones are awash, stay on the bank.
