Beck Hole

Beck Hole is a cluster of cottages around a green in the bottom of the Murk Esk valley, halfway along the Rail Trail between Goathland and Grosmont. The green is home to a quoits pitch, where the traditional game is still played on summer evenings.

The Birch Hall Inn is a remarkable survival: two tiny bars either side of a sweet shop, with beer served through a hatch and a garden above the beck. It has changed little in a century.

Just upstream, Thomason Foss is a pretty waterfall reached by a short path. A steep lane climbs back to Goathland, or continue on the Rail Trail to Grosmont.
