Botham's of Whitby

A family bakery and tea rooms trading in Whitby since 1865, famous for plum bread, ginger loaf and lemon buns.

Elizabeth Botham opened her bakery in 1865, and her descendants still run the shops on Skinner Street and Baxtergate. Botham's is where Whitby buys its cakes: plum bread, Yorkshire brack, ginger loaf, lemon buns and Resolution biscuits, along with a proper pot of tea. The tea room above the Skinner Street shop closed in November 2024 for building work, so head to the Baxtergate shop and tea room in the town centre, or the café at Enterprise Way on the edge of town.
