Mallyan Spout and Beck Hole from Goathland

From the Mallyan Spout Hotel at the west end of Goathland, take the signed path steeply down through the woods to West Beck. Turn left along the beck to reach Mallyan Spout, scrambling over rocks for the last stretch.

Return to the junction and follow the beck downstream through the gorge; the path is rocky and uneven in places. Cross the footbridge and climb to the lane, then follow signs down into Beck Hole. The Birch Hall Inn is the obvious place to stop.

From Beck Hole, take the Rail Trail south along the old trackbed and up the incline back to Goathland, a gentle climb of about a mile and a half.

The riverside section is slippery after rain and not suitable for young children or pushchairs.
