Glaisdale to Egton Bridge by Beggar's Bridge and Arncliffe Wood

This is the loveliest short walk in the dale, linking two stations on the Esk Valley line.

From Glaisdale station, cross Beggar's Bridge and follow the path into Arncliffe Wood. The path climbs a little above the river along a stone trod, worn into hollows by centuries of feet, through oak and beech woodland that is a mass of bluebells in May. Drop back down to the river and follow it to the road at Egton Bridge, passing St Hedda's Church and the stepping stones.

Egton station is at the far end of the village for the one-stop train back to Glaisdale; or extend the walk along the river and lane to Grosmont, another two miles, for the return by train from there.
