Egton stands on the ridge between the Esk and Egton Bridge, a mile uphill from the river. It is a working village of broad streets and stone houses, with the Wheatsheaf Inn, a village shop and the church of St Hilda.
Egton Show, held in late August, is one of the largest one-day agricultural shows in the north of England, with livestock, horses, produce, crafts and a full day of ring events.
The lane from Egton down to Egton Bridge is steep but rewards the walk with views across the wooded valley. Egton's nearest station is Egton, in Egton Bridge, on the Esk Valley line.
