Whitby webcams and weather

Before you set out for the coast or the moors, it pays to look at the sky.

Webcams

• Whitby Webcam shows live views of the harbour, the swing bridge and the abbey headland.
• Several harbourside businesses and the yacht club also run cameras; search for "Whitby webcam" for the current selection.
• The North Yorkshire Moors Railway posts photographs and running updates on its social media channels on operating days.

Weather

• Met Office forecast for Whitby for the coast.
• The moors are usually colder, wetter and windier than Whitby. Use the Met Office's mountain-area forecast for the North York Moors for the tops, and the forecast for Danby or Goathland for the villages.
• In winter, the high roads over Castleton Rigg, Blakey Ridge and Sleights Moor can be closed by snow when the coast is clear.
